A Study on the Nutritional Status and Body Mass Index in Korean College Women

Abstract

|
Background: This study was conducted to investigate nutritional status and body mass index in young Korean colleage women.
Methods: Twenty one subjects were recruited.
Results: The mean age was 21.9 years. The mean of height, weight and BMI were 166.7 cm, 61.1 kg, and 21.9.
The mean calrorie intake was 1604.5 kcal, which is 80% of RDA. And their average intake of carbohydrate, protein, fat are 233.6g, 57.3 g, and 45.4 g. The case of vitamin A, B1, B2 are lower than RDA. The average intake of iron and calcium are 8.4mg and 456.8mg. There was no significant difference between BMI and nutrition intake, respectively. But height had a significant relation to the perception of calcium intake. Age was also associated with vitamin C, B2.
Conclusion: This study suggest that a comprehensive nutrition education program is need for colleage women to improve desirable food habits and weight control.
